Power and rotational motion is transmitted through it as a key link between the engine and the cutting attachment. Usually, on the upper end of the driveshaft is a metal rod with splines or keyways. Driving connection is made to the engine output shaft at one end and to the cutting attachment drive gear or sprocket at the other.
